Amicalola Falls State Park LodgeUnderstand that this is only a partial list - there are many fabulous places to eat here in northeast Georgia; I just got in the mood today to list a few of them, along with their website links - they are in no special order:

The Dillard House. Ahhhh…this is more than just eating. If you have never been you need to make plans (don’t eat for a couple of days) and head up to Dillard for a great lunch or dinner. If my memory is right I believe it’s a little less that 20 bucks a person but it’s well worth it.

The Smith House. Another excellent homestyle restaurant that’s much more than just dining. The last time we were in there we were seated at the same table as a family from Sweden. The guy was a journalist / news anchor on Swedish TV - They were amazed by the amount of food that was served during our meal - I think they were used to paltry portions European-style. We’re serious about eating here in the States. Anyway, it was really interested and fun to talk with these folks - and the food was fantastic. The Smith House is located just off the square in downtown Dahlonega.

Amicalola Falls State Park Lodge. Great food. Great views. Great things to do. You surely don’t want to miss out on this place. Fridays they have a seafood buffet and Saturdays they have a prime rib buffet - fantastic food. The Lodge is beautiful and worth the trip if you have never seen it - during the week it’s a great place to getaway for lunch.

The Dillard House

We were roaming around northeast Georgia last Saturday and ended up at one of my favorite destinations…The Dillard House.  For those of you who don’t know, or who have never been, The Dillard House is an eating experience rather than just a restaurant.  There is no menu - you just sit down and they keep bringing food to the table.  We had ham, ribs, country fried steak, chicken - and every vegetable known to man.  It was fantastic and I had my dose of calories for the weekend.  Click the link above to find out more about this legendary place - make plans to visit soon.

Wine…

Terri and I have been enjoying local wines recently - we’re learning - slowly. Anyway, it has come to my attention that northeast Georgia has quite the selection of wineries, vineyards, and excellent wines. I was surprised to find out about these local wineries: Blackstock Vineyards, Chataeu Elan, Crane Creek Vineyards, Frogtown Cellars, Habersham Winery, Montaluce Winery, Persimmon Creek, Tiger Mountain, and Wolf Mountain —- you can find links to all of these by clicking here

We pretty much have it all up here in Northeast Georgia…

Amicalola Falls State ParkTerri and I have stumbled across a really cool place to eat - Amicalola Falls State Park! There is a magnificant lodge and the restaurant has spectacular views. Friday they have a seafood buffet and Saturday they have a prime rib buffet - at least as of this posting. We’ve also had some pretty good lunches in the dining room during the week. Prices are reasonable - the food is good - the atmosphere is fantastic. We highly recommend taking a roadtrip and checking this place out. For directions you can click here for a Google map
