Fair Weather Fans
What’s wrong with being a fair-weather fan?
We demand everything else we buy work correctly. If it doesn’t we take it back and get our money back. What’s the difference when it comes to supporting and spending money on sports teams? Why in the world would I support a team that doesn’t work?
Am I going to support and promote the Braves if they are losing every night? Of course not. Am I a big Atlanta Falcons fan right now? Not a chance. I think we should take Matt Ryan back and ask for a refund. What about UGA and Georgia TECH? That’s a tough one. On the one hand, TECH has had a fantastic year and is headed to the Orange Bowl – on the other hand – UGA beat them. Right now I’m still a TECH fan. It was touch and go after that humiliating defeat Thanksgiving weekend.
What about Flowery Branch vs Gainesville? Well – Gainesville beat the Falcons twice this year – so right now I’m a Red Elephant. On a side note maybe the Flowery Branch Falcons could infiltrate the Atlanta Falcons practices and show them how to play football.
What about Tiger Woods? Man – I love Tiger Woods. I really like someone who is the absolute best at what they do. Is his career over? I’m going out on a limb – I believe it’s pretty much over. I don’t think he will recover from this scandal – it gets bigger everyday. Golf is a game played between the ears — right now he has mush between the ears.
So – I’m a huge fan on the first day of the season – I fall out of favor as the season wears on and the loses come. I have to wait until next year for the Falcons and Braves – the Hawks and GA TECH are keeping me going right now! TECH even has a decent basketball team.
Now I have to go order my #48 Lowes Jimmie Johnson sweatshirt…

I’m kinda like Dennis. I was raised where I could go and see the MILWAUKEE Braves or the Chicago Cubs anytime I wanted. Being a long time Cub fan, you’ve got to have patience and staying power to be a fan. The Cubs are loved – not because they win – but because we wait for the expected crash. Kind of like being a Dale Jr. fan. And Dennis – does this principle of taking it back if it doesn’t work apply to local, county, state and federal government also? News stories about the residents of Gwinnett still bashing the commissinors when they found cuts so that taxes don’t increase because the residents want tax decreases. If we think this populist movement is a fluke, we’re beginning to see signs all over that it’s got roots that go to the local level. Yes,we live in interesting times. Heck, even 80 year old head coaches decide to “retire” these days. Go figure.
Hey John…
I believe that social media will transform politics and government over the next few years. I think this venue gives the average citizen an opportunity to a) learn more b) stay informed with policy-making on a daily basis and c) run for office – even if they are not an attorney or have the right DNA makeup.
The “good ole boys and girls” club might be coming to an end soon.
