Top Ten Places to find Snow if you live in Northeast Georgia
So we live here in northeast Georgia – and sometimes we want to play in the snow. That’s usually a problem. We just don’t get very much snowfall here in Georgia. Here is an example…
Average snowfall totals:
Atlanta – 2″
Athens – 2.4″
Blairsville – 3″
Hiawassee – 2″
Helen – 3.5″
Not much to write home about…that’s just not very much snow for an entire year. So what options do we have? Well…here are some nearby places that do just a little better when it comes to snowfall:
Gatlinburg TN – 7.7″
Great Smokey Mountains – 84″ (Clingmans Dome)
Asheville NC – 11.9″
Boone NC – 10.3″
Highlands NC – 6″
Keep in mind that mountain roads – especially from Cherokee to Gatlinburg – can be closed on a moments notice. This can cause a HUGE detour or a very long wait – believe me – been there, done that. Check for phone numbers regarding road closures before you leave.
In the meantime – snow is in the forecast for north Georgia this weekend – wow – can you believe it? Early December snow? I’ve gotta see it first.
