NORTHEAST GEORGIA BLOG

As many of you know – I like to eat.  I love running around the mountains up here and finding good grub.  My wife and I are notorious for hitting the road on Saturday morning – doing some hiking – and ending up eating lunch at one of our favorite spots here in northeast Georgia.  Saturday roadtrips like that are lots of fun, they don’t really cost much money, and you learn so much about our area here…I highly suggest you take the time to map out a route for this Saturday based on one of the restaurants listed below – you won’t be sorry.

So – we have to define a couple of things here:

1) What is “northeast Georgia”?  Well – as defined by the State of Georgia it’s 13 counties and 37 cities – they don’t include the Athens area, Jackson County, or Gwinnett in their definition.

2) This list doesn’t include the big chains / franchises.  Some of these might be small franchises but I don’t think any of these are what you would call huge, multi-national companies.  We’re not including McDonalds, Red Lobster, Longhorn, etc…even though we do indeed love some of these big chain restaurants.

So here we go – in no particular order – my favorite places to eat here in Northeast Georgia:

1 Hawg Wild – Clarkesville, GA
2 LakeHouse Bar and Grille – Flowery Branch, GA
3 The Dillard House – Dillard, GA
4 The Smith House – Dahlonega, GA
5 Amicalola Falls Lodge Restaurant – Dawsonville, GA
6 Mickey Piggs – Alto, GA
7 Finis Pizza – Flowery Branch, GA
8 Cheeseburger Bobby’s – Flowery Branch, GA
9 Wangs Chinese – Oakwood, GA
10 Mac’s Pitstop – Gainesville, GA

Honorable mention to KFC in Blairsville – it’s a buffet and is awesome.

Also – I’d like to add that there are dozens of fantastic places that I’ve yet to visit – one of my goals for 2010 is to try them all!  I’m sure there will be a few new place popping up too…
