Skip the tie this Fathers’ Day
If you’ve been wondering what to do for Dad this Fathers’ Day, relax, I’ve listed a few ideas of places to go in and around Atlanta.
Spend the day at Stone Mountain Park:
If you haven’t been in a while, or just haven’t ever taken the time to go, Stone Mountain is a ‘Mountain of Family Adventures’ according to their website.

If Dad is an avid golfer, he would probably enjoy spending quality ‘putting’ time with Junior at the Great Locomotive Chase Adventure Golf course on the park’s property. “Putter around on a miniature golf course based on the real-life adventures of the Great Locomotive Chase. Taking on the perspective of the train’s original crew, you’ll make your way through 18 holes in hot pursuit of the stolen General locomotive. From a spurting water tower to a jumble of broken tracks and a dark tunnel encounter with an oncoming train, it’s a crazily kinetic course filled with special effects and surprises. With train-inspired design elements that seamlessly blend with the architecture of Crossroads and the natural beauty of Stone Mountain the Great Locomotive Chase Adventure Golf hits a hole in one!”

Then stay in the park till dark for the night time Lasershow Spectacular with highlights of musical scores featuring well-known themes from Star Wars, Pirates of the Caribbean, Indiana Jones and High School Musical. With displays of laser lights, graphics, characters and fireworks, the Lasershow Spectacular is great fun for the whole family. The Lasershow is free with your $8.00 vehicle entrance to Stone Mountain Park.(*special event dates may increase fee)

The Wild Side:
If Dad likes wild animals, give him a night in the zoo. The Atlanta Zoo that is. “Father’s Day After Dark. June 19 & 20, 2009 Delve into our wonderful world of wetlands! Help our Zoo Atlanta keepers ensure that our Wetland Exhibit is a happy and healthy home for our wetland creatures – turtles, alligators, and many more. Use water samples, microscopes, and night vision scopes to search for viable biological indicators!” Click the link below to begin your nocturnal adventure at Zoo Atlanta.

The Historical Figure:
Dad is a history buff?? Then why not spend a day at the Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park right here in our backyard! Relive the footsteps of historic events where over 5,000 soldiers were in battle for nearly 3 weeks. http://www.nps.gov/kemo/
Does he love trains? Why not combine his love for history and trains in one shot? Visit the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History located in Kennesaw. “Kennesaw, GA and its surrounding areas are rich with America’s history. Museums, battlefields, and history centers in and around Kennesaw provide a glimpse into the early days of life in Georgia. The city is most notable for its role in the Civil War.” http://www.southernmuseum.org/area_info.htm
The Outdoors Dad:
Is Dad an avid fisherman? Or Golfer? Then whisk him away to Lake Lanier Islands. Resort boasts eight holes on the shores of Lake Sidney Lanier and is known as the best spotted bass fishery in the world and also home to big stripers. Packages for either the big fish dad, or the golfing pro are available from this link:

The in’tune’ Dad:
Is he a music lover? Then join The Sterling on The Lake community as they celebrate . Saturday June 20th from 7pm to 10pm will feature live music from Swingin’ Richards on it’s Classic Rock Night during the Songs4Summer concert series. Admission is free, so make it a picnic for the whole family.

There is so much to do and see here in our great state to take Dad to, making him barbeque on his day just doesn’t seem right. Do yourself, and him, a favor this year,… skip the tie and have a wonderful day with dear ol’ Dad.
