Financing – Has Anything Changed?
We’re smack dab in the middle of an ugly economic contraction. The Federal government, most state governments, and many local governments are throwing money around like we have an endless supply. A huge part of this money is going to fix this “credit problem” I keep hearing about. You know…the thing that happens when you lend money to people who can’t pay it back…that one. Yea…the problem that my 10 year old neice can figure out…that one.
So…I’m assuming (and we all know what that does)…that our government officials and their appointed smart guys are fast at work fixing this problem. I mean…we’re giving them billions…hundreds of billions…so I’m just minding my own business thinking that the Feds are up there taking care of business…then I see this:
No Money Down. Zero interest for a year. No income verification necessary. No credit check.
You gotta be #$%$^*& kidding me?
Did I just see what I thought I saw? Am I still looking at the same ads I saw back in 2003? I’m wondering if Bernie Madoff is secretly running this stupid T.A.R.P. thing and Ken Lay has come back from the dead to be the CEO of all the banks in the country.
So basically we’ll be right back in this mess a few months after we “fix it”…right? Again…if anyone casts a vote for an incumbent – and I don’t care if they are communist, nazi, GOP, Democrat, or Libertarian – I cannot even imagine anyone voting for an incumbent. It doesn’t compute.
I can tell you this. I don’t care if Osama bin Laden runs against an incumbent – I will not be re-electing anyone, anywhere, anyhow, for any reason. If we were to toss all 535 members of the US Congress OUT…the next batch would have a clear message to work with.
My rant for the day.

I couldn’t agree with you more Dennis. There’s only one problem. It’ll never happen. We Americans are like alcoholics. We haven’t hit bottom yet. We aren’t going to change our ways. It’s not bad enough yet for us to collectively scream “enough is enough”. You know what’s to be overcome – - he may be a bum, but he’s my bum and I know him. Why would I vote for someone I didn’t know? When it gets bad enough we’ll vote out enough of them to make the point and the rest will get the hint. Unfortunately, they’ll probably still be led by Princess Nancy and Prince Harry. In 2010 we’ve got the entire House up for re-election and 1/3rd of the senate. That’s about 485 of them. Change that many and I do believe 60 senators will be wearing Depends for a while. But it’s not bad enough. So it won’t happen. It has to be bad enough that roughly 60 million of us start thinking the same way. This could take some time and a lot of Pepto Bismol before it happens. Keep the faith.
