Can the lake make a difference?
The past couple of summers have not been very good to the folks up here in northeast Georgia, particularly those who depend on a little tourism from Lake Lanier. The drought really took her toll on just about every industry imaginable – I think economists often refer to this as “the domino effect”. Whether you were a bait shop, sent people down the ‘hooch in a tube, sold boats, or even sold insurance – the drought was tough. Combine our unique situation concerning the lake with the economic contraction and it’s difficult to imagine anyone who hasn’t been negatively impacted over the past few months.
Ah…but the rains came. And they came. And they came. And they CAME! Boy did we get wet. Some of our weather buddies out there think we might continue to see a more normal pattern over the course of the next few months – good news for everyone up here around the lake and rivers.
Can the lake make a difference? Maybe…with a little help.
Why can’t we get EVERYBODY in northeast Georgia to limit their spending to right here in northeast Georgia? Wouldn’t that be cool? Don’t go down to the mall in Buford. Don’t drive down to Buckhead to eat. Do it right here. Buying a car? Do it here. Planning a weekend trip? Do it here. Going out to eat? Do it here.
Most definitely we could set an example for everyone here in Georgia by digging ourselves up and out of this economic downturn. We don’t need stimulus money. We don’t need a $13 tax cut. Just leave us alone and let us take care of ourselves.
If only we could make it happen. Anyone got a suggestion on how to start it?
