AIG – Keep the Bonuses

UnconstitutionalSometimes when I turn on the news I think I’m watching Saturday Night Live.  I literally can’t believe what I see and hear.  Maybe Chevy Chase or Tina Fey are gonna pop up any minute and confirm that what I’m watching is make-believe.

Our Congress has decided to spend trillions and trillions and trillions of dollars, unemployment is hovering around 10%, the financial markets are acting crazy, our men and women in uniform are deployed all over the place in hostile environments and war zones, we have Mexican terrorists flowing across our border everyday, and the Islamic terrorists are still planning to strike us again…and here is the news of the week:

AIG Executive bonuses.

I kid you not.  I’m not joking.  This is not Saturday Night Live.  This idiotic, silly, stupid, irrelevant, crazy story about AIG Bonuses is the predominant story in the news right now.  I really don’t know what to say.  Is our media and our elected officials so convinced that we’re this stupid?  165 million versus 10 trillion.  Let’s see….what should the story be?

They want to take these bonuses away or tax them into oblivion.  That would undermine our entire system – both the judicial system AND our capitalist system of commerce.  Again – it bears repeating – I cannot believe these morons are serious about this.

Constitutional problems:  1) Article I, Section 9  2) Article 1, Section 10 3) The Fifth Amendment

Not only does this stupid idea violate our constitution but it violates everything we stand for as a nation.  Forget whether or not they deserved those bonuses – totally irrelevant.  Who cares.  You can’t just violate a third of the constitution because a few people are upset and it might be politically expediant to break the law.  These guys and gals know full well this would be overturned in the courts…but it would look good on CNN, FOX, and CSPAN…

I’m not so sure I’m even gonna vote again.  geez.

  1. hey Dennis – If you don’t vote to throw the current batch of 500+ incompetents out in 2010 we’ll just keep on being stuck with them. My fear is people will look around and say “yeah, throw the incompetent nincompoops out, just not my nincompoop. I know what he’s going to do. I don’t know what the new guy will do.” Well, if we don’t get an entire or 90+% new house of reps and a new 30% in the senate, nobody will get the hint. The only recourse we citizens have is the vote. Send a hint – vote out the old and vote in the new. Even the President will pay attention to that “mandate”.

  2. I hear’ya. I get very frustrated with the fact that our elected officials on both sides of the aisle take advantage of the fact that they represent idiots. They represent people who have no clue as to who they are – let alone what they are doing. Don’t worry, I’ll continue to vote and I’ll continue to be involved – but rest assured that in 2010 I’m voting against every incumbent that’s in office.

Did you see your pretty picture on the front of Northeast Georgia Links today?

  3. I can’t imagine what Katie Couric or the talking heads at NBC or ABC would do if we threw out more than 50% of the house and 30% of the senate. They’d be apoplectic on tv. But I’m with you. Good guy, bad guy, don’t know the guy. It doesn’t matter. Come November of 2010 he’s unemployed. But send the message – you’re mortal. Serve your constituents and only your constituents or don’t move out of the extended stay motel.
After you put me on notice above I went and checked out the web site. Sorry about the picture. I can only do so much with what my Mama gave me. Thanks for the space though.
