President Barack Hussein Obama
Well we’ve done it again. For the 44th time in our nations history we’ve transferred power peacefully. We’re awesome. Obama and Bush rode together from the White House to the Capitol. Cheney and Biden rode together. Michelle and Laura rode together. Jill and Lynne rode together.
There is no other country on Earth that can do this.
An interesting note about the ceremony: The 20th Amendment specifies that the terms of office of the president and vice president “shall end at noon on the 20th day of January … and the terms of their successors shall then begin.” And so, the transfer of power was complete when the clock struck noon. Basically President Obama was President Obama way before he took the oath of office…they ran a few minutes late.
So what does all of this mean to the average American? I’m not sure. I do think that when we transfer power, especially from on political party to another, things sorta calm down by default.
We’ll see…he’s only been President for about 50 minutes now.
