Jan 05 2009
Well the new year is officially here – Monday, Jan 05, 2009. Most everyone has been playing around and celebrating the holidays the first four days of the year – now it’s time to get down to business.
Here are some things we’ve done:
1) Put together a detailed budget for 2009. Whether you make 10,000 a year or 10,000 a day – doesn’t matter. Everyone should be operating on a budget and it should be as detailed as possible. Plan for that cruise. Plan for those unexpected financial burdens and expenses.
2) Goals and objectives. We have created a laundry list of things we would like to accomplish over the next 12 months. Once we created our list we went back and grabbed a few things that we would like to work on specifically during January – we’ll do the same for the upcoming months. I’m sure we won’t accomplish everything, and I’m sure we’ll change some things and add some things over the course of the year – the point being that at least you’ll have some type of plan starting the new year as to where you want to be in a few months.
3) Review last year. I sat back and took a look at what we accomplished during 2008 and what we failed to get done in 2008. Bittersweet. We got a few things done – we missed a few. I think it’s good to look back on the highs and lows of the previous year, even if it comes with a great deal of pain (losing loved ones, financial problems, etc). Get a grip on where you are and how you got there.
4) Take a deep breath and just chill out. The holidays are over and we’re starting out at zero (sorta) for the new year. There are many folks who just WISH they were HERE starting over again – think about that.
Happy New Year
