Economic Turmoil

So they say.

I keep hearing that doom and gloom are the highlights for this new year.  Maybe so.  I dunno.  I hope things turn around with the housing market, auto industry, and financial markets.  Personally, I think they will and we’ll be well on to recovery and more boom times by summer.

As a side note, I’ve noticed something that concerns me.  I don’t hear much about this but the more I look around the more I see it – and I think it could be the biggest contributing factor in our economic woes – and could really come home to haunt us a few years down the road.  It’s this:

There is such a massive group of people who don’t have a marketable skill.  They don’t have a means to earn a wage that can sustain any type of lifestyle.  This group includes college graduates as well as high school dropouts.

Outdated SchoolsI blame this on our government school system.  We have a system in place right now that guarantees you a good job when you graduate —— if it were 1960.  Our system hasn’t changed.  The schools look the same.  The teachers teach the same.  Everything is basically the same except for a few internet connections here and there.  I think it’s pathetic and I think it’s a great example of how government refuses to change and is totally ineffective.  Our universities and private institutions are the envy of the World – why can’t we duplicate that in a high school setting?  We are preparing fewer and fewer kids to compete in the international marketplace.

We don’t need more money.  We need people who are actually living in the 21st century running the school systems.

ARGH!!
