2008 – A Crazy Year

Happy 2008We say it every year – it’s can’t get no more crazy.  Every December all of the news organizations start doing the “year in review” articles and specials.  We all think at the time that it just can’t get any more crazy.

This year we may be right.  2008 has been a roller coaster for everyone and we still have 4 days left!

Politics: Of course the Presidential race topped the stories in politics – we elected our first black man as President and Sarah Palin came down from Alaska and shook things up a bit.  Saxby Chambliss had the scare of his political life and Ted Kennedy had the scare of his LIFE – forget politics.  Gov Blagojevich and Gov Spitzer along with Senator Stevens had some fun this year too.  Finally, President Bush is finishing up his eight-year gig – I’m sure he isn’t going to miss it very much.

Economy: Wow.  That pretty much describes the economy this year.  Gas prices go from $4.50 a gallon at the pump to $1.35 – it that ain’t crazy I don’t know what is.  WallStreet came apart at the seams.  The big three auto-makers are basically bankrupt.  Congress tossed almost a trillion dollars to the financial industry to “help” a failing housing market, and we’re talking about dishing more money out in 2009.  For my money the economy takes the story of the year – hands down.

Other things: OJ is in jail.  How ironic is that?  The muslims decided to kill some more folks – this time over in Mumbai India.  Gustav and Ike caused havoc – millions of dollars worth of damage.  We entered our sixth year in Iraq – who knows where that’s going this coming year?  Michael Phelps goes crazy at the Olympics and wins medals for everything.

Yep – it’s been a weird and crazy year.  I’m thinking and hoping that 2009 might be a little more stable, a little more calm – but who knows?  I might really get stupid and do some predictions tomorrow.

Signing off…

  1. Well, as 2008 rolls up and we begin to see the start of 2009, my natural inclinations are to hope everyone was well pleased with what Santa delivered on Christmas and that we all are looking ahead to 2009 with a positive outlook. Have a great holiday week, be safe, be positive, be well and be on time 1-5-09. You never know what you’ve missed out on when you’re late.

And Dennis – congratulations to you and Terri on version 2.0. Terri’s way too young to be a grandmother but you sure do look the part my friend.
