The Economy?

Gatlinburg TNMy wife and I decided to get up on Black Friday and head up to the mountains for some well-deserved R&R.  We started down here in Oakwood, headed up to Hwy 441, over the Smokey Mountains, and into downtown Gatlinburg.

Of course, since everything has gone down the tube we were expected to have our pick of hotel room (at dirt cheap prices), we expected to walk into any of the restaurants in town (no lines or wait) and eat some great discounted food, and we didn’t see any traffic in our immediate future.

Right.

The trip up to the Cherokee area was uneventful; very little traffic.  Crossing the mountain into Gatlinburg proved to be a nightmare.  I’ve been coming up here for 30-years and I had never seen traffic like this.  We finally got into town and we were simply amazed.  More people than I’ve ever seen in this little mountain town were running around all over the place like they have never watched a CNN segment on our horrible economic conditions.

The hotels were charging top dollar and getting full.  You had to wait in line forever to pay a restaurant top dollar for lunch or dinner.  Even Goofy Golf was packed.

I love it.
