Chasing Snow

HighlandsMy buddy John Miller might have a problem with this post.

I LOVE winter.  We’re down here in the south so it really isn’t all that bad most of the time and it’s a nice change of pace – we never have boring weather here in Georgia.

Having said that – I also love snow – something we don’t get on a regular basis.  We like it so much that we actually go and chase it; we hunt it down.  There are some great destinations just a few hours from northeast Georgia that can produce some fairly impressive snow and create quite a winter wonderland; you almost forget you are just a few miles from the house.

I have a section over at Northeast Georgia Links called Snow Watch – check it out if you want to find the white stuff this winter.  You can head up towards Gatlinburg and the Smokey Mountains, you can take the beautiful drive up to Highlands, NC, or you can head up towards the Asheville area – lots of cool towns – lots of snow in the winter.

Remember to check ahead for conditions, road closures, chain requirements, and weather forecasts.  You may need to take an alternate route during the winter, especially if headed up to Gatlinburg.

John…stay away from these sites…

  1. Well, Dennis, you’re right. I do have a problem with snow. I don’t have a problem with you. I’ve seen the first snowfall of the season come shortly after Labor Day and the last just before Memorial Day. I’ve shoveled snow at midnight and then did a turn around and shoveled it again the following 5:00am just so I could get out of the driveway and go to work. I don’t like it. Snow has no logical purpose on this earth other than to give deer hunters something to track their prey in. You can love it, chase it, play in it, admire it and think it’s attractive. but it’s still snow and it has absolutely no redeeming value to mankind. It should be banned. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I think I’ll go and formulate a good solid opinion about snow. This was just a cranky old man giving you a mild emotional outburst on the white &*%%$@(!@.

  2. Hey John…

Terri and I are up here in Gatlinburg – chasing snow. Saw a little bit up on the mountain on the way into town but nothing so far here in the valley. It is really nice up here this time of year.

Rum and coke down at Friday’s wasn’t bad either…

    Dennis
