Yea…thats right…tax the oil companies
I suppose to someone who hasn’t given the topic two-seconds of thought “tax the oil companies” sounds pretty good right now. Soak’em. Hit’em where it hurts…in the pocketbook. Those evil corporations are overcharging us for our gas. Those evil companies are also killing the environment.
We know how to fix this…tax, tax, and tax. Punish them.
Sooooo…what would happen to the price of gas if we raise taxes on oil companies? Who would pay those taxes?
I’m done. That about does that. I may need to come back and explain economics 101 at a later time. You gotta luv it.

On the other hand, who makes more on a $4.00 gallon of gas? BIG OIL makes about $.11 profit. That’s 11 cents. BIG GOVERNMENT makes about 15% between federal, state and some locals. That’s about $.60. That’s 60 cents. And all they had to do is find the name of the oil company and order them to pay. They didn’t have to explore, get approval, drill, pump, ship, refine, deliver. And we’re blaming the oil company for high oil prices? Isn’t that interesting.
Show me an industry that is heavily regulated by government and I can show you this: poor customer service, high prices, inferior products. There has never been an exception to this rule. Off the top of my head: banking, airlines, insurance, healthcare…the list is easy to compile. So…why don’t we add oil / gasoline / energy to the mix? Wouldn’t that be fun?
