Top ten hardest things to do in sports – #5

130 MPH Tennis Serve - OUCH!USA Today is responsible for this list…I’m just throwing in my two-cents worth.

Number 5 – Returning a serve

I’d say returning a 130MPH tennis serve deserves the top ten. 185 feet per second – that gives you about 1/2 a second to react.

I can agree with the USA Today guys on this one. How would you like to get hit with that…ouch.

  1. I play tennis in ALTA and USTA. 130+ mph serve is difficult to see much less swing at, much less hit it, much less put it in play. Watch the pros this weekend at Roland Garros. They see them every week and still have difficulty getting more than 25% back in play. At 130mph in the length of a tennis court the ball looks about the size of a string of yellow yarn about a foot long coming at you.
