Iraq…
I was reading this morning on the Gainesville Times website about a soldier from Hall County who has been injured while serving in Iraq. Read the article here.
Operation Iraqi Freedom…I supported military action against Iraq…I supported President Bush, Vice President Cheney, Secretary Rumsfield…I was thrilled when I saw those pictures of Saddam after being pulled out of a rathole…I was proud watching the best military in the history of the World pound the Taliban in Afghanistan and take it to the “elite” forces in Iraq…
Taking Iraq might have been the most successful military accomplishment in World history – looking at all of the variables and taking the low casualty rate into account. Very impressive.
Now what?
I’m not caving in to the “anti-war” crowd. I’m not second-guessing and playing Monday morning quarterback. I’m just trying to convince myself to continue to support this thing…and I’m having a hard time doing it. I’m not really sure what “victory” means over there…I don’t know that any type of lasting civility can be established in certain parts of the World…I dunno.
Maybe we would be better off aiming our missiles at the right targets – sending a stern message to these countries and organizations – and using our military to defend our borders, particularly the border to the south. I’m afraid after such an impressive show of military force we’re now looking very weak.
All of our best to Pvt. Nathon Bagwell and his family…and all of those just like him…we’re proud of what they do and what they endure.
