Hard to believe…

I love northeast Georgia. We have it all up here - beautiful scenery - all sorts of outdoor sports and activities - great weather - fantastic people - small towns - farms - bustling cities - booming business environment - you just can’t ask for much more.

However.

Anytime I’m with someone or talking to someone that lives elsewhere in the metro Atlanta area, the minute I tell them where I live, I get this: “…oh. Gainesville area. That’s where all of the illegals live. You speak spanish?” I’m not kidding. The reputation Gainesville has garnered over the past decade is that we’re “little Mexico”. In fact, many of the people who live here often refer to Atlanta Hwy between Oakwood and Gainesville as “little Mexico”. I really pay it little attention but when I’m confronted with it from an “outsider” - I really hammer them on the fact that Gainesville and northeast Georgia has been selected by several publications and organizations as some of the best areas in the nation to live and work.

So…I’m surfing on the net today and find this gem of an article: Lawyers want Hall sheriff to use discretion with illegal immigration program

I’m not believing what I’m reading…Local attorney Arturo Corso said ““There’s no way five people fishing in the middle of the day would cause anybody alarm or concern.”

Four of those fishermen were in the United States illegally. For Mr. Corso - that means they have violated the law. They indeed cause alarm and concern for those who live here legally.

The remedy for someone here illegally is to deport them. Let them take a shot at doing it legally for a change.
